Back to the stomping grounds of my carefree college days, La Crosse, WI- a small city sandwiched between rocky bluffs and the Mississippi river. Storm clouds shadowed our adventures. We got lost on a muddy river road, surrounded by house boats and water up to the trees' knees. Distant train whistles and rain drops sang us to sleep. We ended the trip with an ice cream stop at The Pearl- not to be missed.

We hiked newly discovered trails and stopped to smell the junipers. Our campsite hugged the bay and we savored the sunset around the campfire. We hopped rocks, avoiding the chilly water, at one of our favorite spots, Cave Point. The Lake Michigan breeze still felt like winter.
